Steven Nyman and Mario Matt both miss out on victory by just five hundredths of a second

Fischer's most successful racing weekend ever in Beaver Creek came to an end on Monday 3 December, with Hannes Reichelt clinching victory (see also winner's interview at www.fischer-alpineracing.com) and Christoph Gruber (AUT) taking third place in the Super-G. The Fischer Team had two further podium placings, with Mario Matt's (AUT) second place in the Giant Slalom and Steven Nyman's second place in the Downhill event. Both Matt and Nyman just missed out on victory by a mere five hundredths of a second.

Six Fischer racers in the top 16 in Super-G

Reichelt headed a successful Fischer Team in the Super-G. Christoph Gruber took third place, going in to the race with painkillers after an ankle injury. Aleš Gorza (SLO) came ninth. With Georg Streitberger (AUT) finishing 12th, Stephan Görgl (AUT) in 13th place and Matthias Lanzinger (AUT) 16th, three further Fischer racers made the top 16. Ivica Kostelić (CRO) finished 24th and once again picked up World Cup points in the Super-G.

Matt's first podium finish in Giant Slalom – eleven Fischer racers pick up points

There was a premiere for Mario Matt in the Giant Slalom on Sunday 2 December. The Slalom World Champion in Åre 2007 celebrated second place and also his first podium placing in Giant Slalom. "Second place is a big surprise for me. I made two mistakes in the first run. I got into a good rhythm at the top of the second run, skiing it perfectly. And then I made a small mistake again at the bottom. I had skied some fast sections in Giant Slalom the year before, but I never managed to do so throughout the whole race. Slowly but surely things are now beginning to work in Giant Slalom, too. And I'm very happy about that." Ten other racers on the Fischer Team also earned points and made it a compact team result: 7th Hannes Reichelt (AUT), 10th Christoph Gruber (AUT), 10th Thomas Fanara (FRA, second best time in second run), 12th Manfred Mölgg (ITA), 15th Stephan Görgl (AUT), 19th Joel Chenal (FRA), 22th Aleš Gorza (SLO), 24th Cyprien Richard (FRA), 26th Niklas Rainer (SWE), 28th Raphael Burtin (FRA).

Nyman continues US tradition of podium finishes in Beaver Creek

The Fischer Team's first podium finish went to Steven Nyman in the Downhill on Friday 30 November. The US American had to settle for third place in the previous year's race. "Some had less snowfall, others had better visibility. But that's skiing for you. I'm very satisfied with my performance. The crowds were right behind me. We have a long tradition here in Beaver Creek. I think an American has always made it to the podium in the last seven years. I'm very proud to be able to continue this tradition. Of course it would have been nice to win." After fourth place in the Downhill in Lake Louise Kurt Sulzenbacher put in another strong performance. The Italian finished ninth in Beaver Creek.

Schönfelder seventh in Super Combined despite flu

Rainer Schönfelder also made his way back again this season to a place among the top athletes. Despite suffering from flu, the Austrian finished seventh in the Super Combined event on Thursday 29 November.
